Forza Horizon 4 System Requirements

Update: Forza Horizon 5 is nearly upon us! See our Forza Horizon 5 System Requirements page to make sure you’ve got the PC you need to run the game when it releases.

Can I Run Forza Horizon 4?

To determine whether your current gaming rig is up to the demands of Forza Horizon 4, you first need to figure out what it’s housing, notably when it comes to the CPU, GPU, and RAM. If you’re uncertain how to go about doing this, fret not as you can refer to our guide here, which will walk you through the precise steps.

With your specifications in hand, you need only compare them to the minimum and recommended specifications for Forza Horizon 4, which we’ve listed below for convenience. We would suggest aiming for the recommended specifications for the best possible gameplay experience.

Checking system requirements isn’t exactly a barrel of laughs, so with that in mind, we are currently fine-tuning a bespoke utility to make the process a lot less of a drag. It will scan your PC and list the specifications, sidestepping that part entirely. It’s still under wraps, but expect an update on our progress soon.

Forza Horizon 4 Game Details

  • Release Date: October 2nd, 2018 (PC, Xbox One)
  • System Requirements: Medium
  • Genre: Racing game
  • Developer: Playground Games
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios

Forza Horizon 4 is the latest entry in the Forza series, and following in that rich tradition, offers an action-packed take on the open-world racing genre. Said open-world is a fictionalized rendition of the verdant pastures of the Great British isles, oozing with bucolic charm, including the Cotswolds, the Lake District, and Edinburgh.

Players can jump in either solo or squad up to explore Forza Horizon’s vast open world. An open-world which even boasts dynamic seasons with unique weather systems that change the landscape with appropriate markers of the yearly passing of time from the snow-covered countryside to scorching summer excursions. Features like frozen lakes in winter mean previously inaccessible locations before ripe for exploration.

Forza Horizon 4’s open-world is also a shared, synchronized affair, where each iteration can house up to 72 different players for a truly multiplayer experience.

Microsoft markets the game as an ‘automotive festival’, and we’re hard-pressed to disagree with over 450 different vehicles to drive and modify alongside a bevy of activities from racing and exploration to stunt driving and more.

You’ll need somewhere to park your latest cars, won’t you? Thankfully, Forza Horizon 4 allows players to purchase a house to unlock more vehicles, items, and in-game perks. A base of operations of sorts.

With two DLC expansions to date, Fortune Island and Lego Speed Champions, there’s more than enough content to keep you occupied to no end.

Forza Horizon 4 Minimum Requirements

  • CPU: Intel Core i3-4170 @ 3.7Ghz / Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67Ghz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • HDD: 55 GB of storage space
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650TI / AMD Radeon R7 250x or equivalent with 2GB of memory
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Screen Resolution: 720p or better
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection

Forza Horizon 4 Recommended Requirements

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 @ 3.6Ghz
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • HDD: 55 GB of storage space
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB / AMD Radeon R9 290X / AMD Radeon RX 470 or equivalent with 4GB of memory
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • DirectX: DirectX 12
  • Screen Resolution: 1080p or better
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection

Optimal Hardware Suggestions

The minimum system requirements are geared towards 30 FPS running at 720p with the settings on low to medium, depending on how they are tweaked. Due to the open-world nature of the game, the rate does waver somewhat but remains reasonably steady.

The 8GB of RAM requirement can’t be overlooked, and while you may have the required GeForce GTX 650 Ti, it’s unlikely you’ll have the RAM count to match. Fortunately, RAM is among the easiest upgrades to make.

The recommended specifications up the frames to 60 FPS with a resolution of 1080p and the settings pushed to high. You can toy with the resolution and settings to up the frame rate count quite successfully, or conversely up settings to say ultra and still manage 40 to 50 FPS.

The GPU demands are middling, while the RAM and CPU jump to a staggering 12 GB and Core i7, respectively. These aren’t exactly top tier but may prove troublesome for players with a PC of a certain age.

What Gaming PC Do We Recommend?

While the requirements, especially the recommended, aren’t low, they don’t veer into the highest spec territory either. Forza Horizon 4 is a visually spectacular title, and, surprisingly, doesn’t require crazy power to offer an excellent gameplay experience.

As for recommendations, notably, if you are starting from scratch, we’d point you in the direction of our $600 or $700 builds. They’ll run Forza Horizon 4 beautifully and put you in good stead for a great selection of other modern titles with some excellent components that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
