Astro headsets are very well-regarded amongst the gaming community, they’ve garnered a reputation of quality, aesthetics, and continue to be one of the most sought-after brands. We are fans of Astro headsets here at WePC, especially after the veteran peripheral manufacturer Logitech acquired Astro for a reported $85m back in 2017. This meant that two of the top dogs in gaming headsets and general peripherals have combined forces. Since then, we’ve seen a slew of very impressive Astro headsets, and we are here to bring you a rundown of the best Astro headsets in 2022.

ASTRO Gaming A50 Wireless Gaming Headset

ASTRO Gaming A50 Wireless Gaming Headset

Pros
Cons

The Astro A50 gaming headset is one of the most feature-rich gaming headset packages we’ve seen in recent years. It lacks RGB as it originated in the era preceding the industry-wide push for rainbow illumination. It’s got it where it counts, however, with stellar comfort, awesome sound quality, and the included Base station not only charges the headset but acts as an external USB DAC. This means that you don’t have to rely on the onboard audio of your motherboard, and it leaves the motherboard audio free for other uses.

The base station also contains both optical and 3.5mm lines out, so you can drive external speakers through it, meaning it becomes the all-in-one audio solution. Audiophiles of the highest standard will of course still prefer a sound card, but for the vast majority of gamers, the Astro A50 base station will be more than sufficient.

Of course, the base station isn’t the only thing that earns the A50s the award of best Astro headset. Astro continues to be faithful in its promise for support after purchase, with replacements many of the individual components that make up this headset available on their website. This inspires confidence in the longevity of this product, and the non-proprietary inputs on the Base stations mean that it’ll stay widely compatible for years to come.

Astro A10 Gaming Headset

Astro A10 Gaming Headset

Pros
Cons

Oftentimes headsets that come under the ‘budget’ or ‘cheap’ category get their low prices from the usage of substandard materials, bad packaging, and sometimes truly terrible audio. Luckily, This is not the case with the Astro A10s. Of course, given the 346g/12.2oz weight the construction of this Astro headset is predominantly plastic. However, it avoids being flimsy by the choice implementation of aluminum where strength or rigidity is needed, this was the same great tactic we noticed in our HyperX Cloud Stinger review.

Another positive aspect of the A10s that stems from their price is simplicity. No adapters, dongles, or external sound cards. Just plug and play, no need to worry about finicky software or compatibility issues, just plug the 3.5mm audio cables into a vacant port on your device of choice, and get back to gaming.

Of course, the drivers aren’t the largest coming in at around 40mm, but trust us, they sound bigger than that and can hold their own, even against gaming headsets exceeding this price range. Additionally, the comfort of the headset has been found to be a little hit-or-miss around the office, so your mileage may vary. It’s worth noting that the majority of people who tried them on liked them, but there was a not-insignificant amount of people who disagreed.

ASTRO Gaming A40 Gaming Headset + MixAmp Pro

ASTRO Gaming A40 Gaming Headset + MixAmp Pro

Pros
Cons

The A10s earn their place on the Best Astro headsets page for their well-balanced price. The features are more numerous than the A10s, but they have a far less eye-watering price than the super-premium A50s.

They aren’t wireless, but they have very simple plug-and-play connectivity and the same drivers and overall design as the A50s. If you all the comfort of the best Astro headset, but you’re unwilling to pay such a large price, the A40s are the perfect selection for you.

Additionally, they can come bundled with a dock for an extra price premium, this makes them essentially identical in functionality and expandability to the Astro A50s, just without the wireless functionality. If you can live with being tethered to your desk while gaming, look no further than the Astro A40 gaming headset.

Some have expressed some disappointment with the mic on the Astro A40, but most seem to think it’s perfectly cromulent despite this. It’s worth noting here that Astro headsets do have a small reputation for dodgy mics. We haven’t experienced this, but it’s worth knowing all the same.

Final Word

There we have it folks, a comprehensive look at the best Astro headsets. Astro has a considerable reputation to uphold so whichever option you go for will be a safe bet here. The A50’s of course had to take the title of best Astro headset for their superb build quality and convenient powerful dock system. The Astro A10 represents Astro well on the budget end of the spectrum, boasting quality where it matters and a very agreeable price tag. The A40 has all the making of the last headset you’ll need and the optional mixamp upgrades them to match the A50’s functionality, sans wireless operation.
