Black Friday 2021 : Everything you need to know

Black Friday is fast approaching, and as the busiest day for shopping in the western hemisphere, it can be difficult to wrap your head around the what’s, why’s, and how’s of seeing what appears to be impossibly low prices on your favourite products for a fraction of the price you’d usually see them at for the rest of the year (Cyber Monday notwithstanding). Almost every major retailer will have some sort of Black Friday promotion, however, not all of them are all that great. Meaning that a lot of the hype around Black Friday is just that; Hype.

With that said, you’ll still be able to grab a bargain coming up ahead of Christmas as to not disappoint your loved ones, and pinching a few more pennies to get something nice for yourself, too. Previously, we’ve seen all the videos of people clamoring to sprint over to the discounted televisions, however, the days of physically going into a store and actually seeing what deals are available are long gone, though you can still do that if you so choose. But who wants to go out in November into a crowded shopping center, anyway?

We’ve entered into the age of the digital retailer, meaning that now that Black Friday is something that all major digital retailers like Amazon are aware of, they’ll all actually compete with each other to see who exactly gets the lowest prices and will earn the most amount of money, and surprisingly, it’s not always Bezos’ behemoth that comes out on top. The way that this works is that the place that has the most sense to proceed to discount the product incrementally, constantly undercutting competitors while still remaining profitable will have the most sales, so all retailers will be in a constant battle in order to get that lowest possible price, essentially playing a very expensive game of chicken to see who will come out on top.

Of course, this doesn’t usually immediately happen at the start of the day, as that’s when all of the deals first begin to trickle out. Some retailers and brands will go live with their best offers then, but it’s highly unlikely that you’ll need to be sat awake at midnight to catch the best Black Friday deals, as they will also be timed, dropping at different points of the day in the middle of this all.

This means that Black Friday can be a foul beast to navigate, but you can always do things that allow you to mitigate this. The main thing is that you’re able to bag a deal, and you’ll be able to do just that right here on WePC.com, as we’ve done all of the research, and all of the hard work to see what deals will be worth it this Black Friday.

Black Friday Tips

Know what you are shopping for

The big trick with Black Friday is to have a bit of a strategy going into it before you go in. The best thing to do is to first identify what products you’ll be wanting to purchase, whether that be PC parts, a new monitor or gaming peripherals, and then look at your own budget. Once you’ve managed to organise yourself around what you want and how much you want to spend, you don’t need to worry about getting FOMO and missing out on a TV deal you definitely didn’t need, nor will you be scattered after the day, realising that you’ve overspent on what you needed to purchase, to begin with. It goes a long way in sifting through the deluge of deals on Black Friday, meaning that you will be able to laser target exactly what you’re after.

Do your research before buying something

It can be tempting to jump at a deal just because there’s a big saving and it looks good, but doing some research into the product that you are looking at prior to purchasing will go a long way. Sometimes you just need to skim over a review to ensure that you are getting the right thing, or just make sure that the tech specs of what you are buying make sense for the price point. It can be easy to be ‘trapped’ into getting a deal because the sticker price is low, but you’ll want to carefully comb it over prior to pressing the big red ‘Buy’ button.

Cross-reference pricing to original RRP rather than percentages

An easy trap to fall into is to look at the original RRP of the product than looking at the percentage discount. Some products will have inflated RRPs, making the deep percentage discounts look more attractive. The best thing to do would be to take a look at the product’s original price and make a decision based on that. In addition to this, you’ll need to just make sure that it’s a reputable product, as it’s likely that there will be deep discounts on other additional products from lesser-known brands with very little information available at a significant discount, this should ring some alarm bells, and then we recommend that you circle back to our previous point of doing your research before purchasing something.
