Steam is known for some incredible price drops, especially during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday periods. When looking at previous Black Friday sales, steam has historically come through with some excellent value propositions, including bundles that allow you to buy every game in a given franchise for a vastly discounted price. This year is poised to be no different so we can safely expect some big savings on a wide range of games on Steam on Black Friday. It’s worth noting that Steam tends to drop all the deals at once, and doesn’t usually change them between the onset of Black Friday and the arrival of Cyber Monday so you can safely grab any deal as and when you see it, without fear of its price dropping further just a couple of days later. If you haven’t managed to get your hands on Far Cry 6 yet this might be your chance to snag a cheeky discount. The recent new MMO from Amazon, New World, might also be on the cards for a bargain.
The Epic Games Store has been increasing their library ferociously in the past couple of years to compete with the Steam store, and as such, they aren’t going to disappoint this year, Epic Games store has also been known to give out some tempting freebies around the Black Friday/Cyber Monday period as they did last year with Cities: Skylines and Alien: Isolation, there’s been no rumblings about the freebies this year-round but we will be keeping a keen eye for the best gaming deals for you this Black Friday
Origin is EA’s divisive competitor to Steam and the Epic Games Store, so it’s a safe bet that they’ll be dishing out the discounts this year in order to tempt you to give them some of your gaming deals budget. EA has a dizzying number of IPs at their disposal so it’s very much worth paying attention to their offerings for both games and DLC, DLC specifically is a big part of the EA business model with many of their free-to-play games having huge cosmetic offerings, this will also see a slash in price this holiday season, for example, Apex Legends.
As the gaming community slowly moves away from physical media the digital content delivery that was originally spearheaded by Steam has become more and more popular. This was exacerbated by the release of the PlayStation 5 Digital edition which featured no disc drive whatsoever. Sony clearly has the move to digital-only gaming in mind as both versions of the PlayStation 5 are now compatible with M.2 drives up to a staggering capacity of 2TB. This makes for the safe assumption that the PSN store Black Friday deals are going to be extensive and impressive. It’s also worth mentioning that PlayStation Plus subscription holders tend to get a little extra discount, in addition to the free games that roll around monthly. If you’re a console gamer lucky enough to have got your hands on a PS5 the PSN Store Black Friday deals will be well worth your time.
Xbox’s game releases have been slim this year, around 30 games are heading to Xbox exclusively this year, including the hotly anticipated Halo: Infinite due for release on December 8. We are unlikely to see a pre-order discount for that but given the success of Xbox’s Game Pass Ultimate, and the history of discounts for the service, we are very likely to see some price slashing for both the games and the service itself. Keep a weather eye on this, dear reader.
Looking forward to a game releasing later this year? or even early next year? If you’re already committed to buying your as yet unreleased game of choice it might be worth holding fast until Black Friday and Cyber Monday as some publishers have been known to slightly slash the price of games that are approaching release, if you’re excited about From Software’s Elden Ring or Dice’s Battlefield 2042 or any of the other numerous game releases we can look forward to this year, you might be lucky enough to get a discount on a game you were already committed to buying.
Remember to check back frequently as we will be updating this page (and many many others) with the best Black Friday gaming deals as we get closer to the date.
