Benchmarks For Samsung Chipsets Powered By AMD’s RDNA Revealed

About a year ago, AMD agreed to provide RDNA graphics architecture to Samsung’s future chipsets. This strategic partnership aimed to bring “ultra low power, high-performance graphics” to mobile SoCs.

AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su said on the partnership: “Adoption of our Radeon graphics technologies across the PC, game console, cloud, and HPC market has grown significantly and we are thrilled to now partner with industry leader Samsung to accelerate graphics innovation in the mobile market.”

While we have yet to see a concrete offering from this partnership, we’ve heard confirmation that the chipsets are on their way to becoming a reality.

The existence of the AMD GPU-powered Samsung chipset was recently confirmed in the benchmark figures taken from GFXBench tests. It looks like engineers are starting to finally test the new silicon out.

The Samsung SoC was benched with Qualcomm’s Adreno 650 GPU. Adreno 650 is the current flagship GPU used in the Snapdragon 865 5G mobile platform.

The following figures are the benchmark results:

The benchmark shows that the Samsung SoC outperforms the Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU by a pretty clear margin.

The benchmarks also highlight that the new RDNA-based AMD GPU will give Samsung SoC an advantage in 3D graphics processing. This looks like it could be a very promising step up for Samsung in the future.

When Will We See These Chipsets Launch?

While these benchmarks might reveal some interesting details, it is still not clear when we will see these chipsets hit the market.

There’s a rumor that Samsung’s Exynos 1000 series will be a good candidate for the new GPU. That would mean we’d see this AMD GPU sometime next year. However, this is an unconfirmed rumor so we can’t say whether it’s accurate.
