Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date Delayed

One of the most anticipated games of 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has got the gaming world pretty excited since it was announced.

However, recent news tells us that the original release date in April has been pushed back to September. You’ll still be able to get your hands on it this year, but it looks like we’ve got a long wait ahead of us.

Looking On The Bright Side

CD Projekt Red released a statement on the role-playing game over Twitter:

“We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done.

“Night City is massive — full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing, and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation, and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”

While it may be disappointing news for those of us who were expecting to get our hands on the game in the Spring, we’re trying to look on the bright side. At least they’re not rushing the game’s completion and there’s nothing to suggest that the finished product will suffer as a result.

Work on Cyberpunk 2077 started back in 2013, so there has been a pretty long wait so far, what’s a few months extra?

Disappointing News All Around…

Cyberpunk is far from the only game with a disappointing delay. Those of us gearing up to play The Last of Us 2 next month recently found out that this would be delayed until May 29 this year.

Game director, Neil Druckmann gave a similar reason as CD Projekt Red did: “we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality.”

We also know now that Final Fantasy 7 has been delayed too, although that’s only from March to April so not too much of a wait. Square Enix also broke the news that The Avengers game would also be delayed from the original release date of May to September. Again, not a massive wait but a little disappointing.

It certainly looks like September will be a busy month for releases. We just hope that this extra time means we’ll get titles that do not disappoint. Hey, at least this gives us an extra couple of months to save up… right?
