The well-loved manga and anime series Fairy Tail will be getting a video game adaptation sometime in the near future. This is great news for manga and anime fans alike as they will be able to play as their favorite characters for the first time.
For those who might not already know, the Fairy Tail universe takes place around the adventures of a magical guild named “Fairy Tail”. We don’t want to give too many plot points away in case anyone isn’t fully caught up though!
The creator of Fairy Tail’s manga, Hiro Mashima is also thankfully named as the game’s supervisor. This means we should hopefully get a title that is true to the original story and not just some wild adaptation. Hiro Mashima states that the game is going to deliver “a faithful recreation for the FAIRY TAIL world and its unusual inhabitants; including everything from magic to its iconic characters.”
Fairy Tail Release Date
There isn’t a set release date as of yet but it’s rumored we may see its release before February 2020. We will likely receive more up to date information as the months roll by, but for now, we will just have to wait and see.
Pre-order Fairy Tail Nintendo Switch
We found out some additional news during the Tokyo Game Show 2019. This release is set to allow players to build up their own guild located in Magnolia Town. As you level up it looks like you will be able to grow your guild and receive more quests to go after.
What about gameplay?
So far all we have are a couple of screenshots and interview excerpts. From one of the screenshots, we can see a small glimpse of the battle system which appears to be turn-based (just as we classic JRPG fans like it!).
In what has been described as a “highly strategic” battle system, players will enter a turn-based battle sequence. Just like in your party, enemies will have a different formation depending on the battle, this will hopefully result in a more tactical battle system for players to master.
Some information on the characters we will see was shown in the above video. While we don’t yet know if all these characters will be playable, we have Erza Scarlet, Wendy Marvell, Gray Fullbuster, Lucy Heartfilia, and Natsu Dragneel to look forward to.
Closing thoughts
It looks like we will have to wait and see when it comes to a final release date, some sources suggest we may have a little more information in October but as always we’ll keep you posted.
With the game set to release sometime next year on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC it isn’t long until we get to play as our favorite characters.
