Counterplay Games Teases Godfall With First Look At Lion-Like Silvermane Valorplate

Developer Counterplay Games has released a brand new teaser trailer for the upcoming hack and slash looter, Godfall.

It was presumably meant to lead into Godfall’s appearance at Sony’s now-canceled PS5 event this Thursday. Sony chose to cancel the event in the wake of the protests and unrest sweeping across the US so as not to divert attention away from ‘more important voices.’

As the first confirmed PS5 title, we’ve known about Godfall since The Game Awards 2019 in December, and the trailer offers a fresh look at one of the game’s Valorplates. Valorplates being armor sets assigned to one of three classes that players can choose from in Godfall, each with their own aesthetic, combat style, and guardian angel-like god to match.

In this case, we get a look at the Silvermane Valorplate, which appears to channel a feline resembling a lion. The character dons an armor that glows the color of fire accompanied by a mane of what seems to the flowing gray hair, a cape, and gilded gold details with prominent shoulder plates.

Silvermane is showcased in stunning detail in the trailer. As we’ve yet to see any sustained PS5 gameplay footage from Godfall or otherwise, it’s hard to tell whether we are looking at what players can expect from PS5 gameplay or a heavily stylized CGI rendition. If we are looking at an in-game level of graphical fidelity, Godfall certainly pushes the notion of a generation leap.

The trailer lasts all of 30 seconds and doesn’t share all that much about Godfall other than the Silvermane-specific tag line ‘Be lionhearted and ascend with Silvermane.’ The format suggests Counterplay Games will release successive teases touching upon all the classes set to feature in Godfall.

If you’re out of the loop, here’s the official blurb for Godfall from publisher Gearbox, ‘Godfall is a brand new, next-gen looter-slasher, set in a bright fantasy universe filled with heroic knights and arcane magic. Godfall is a fantasy action RPG that utilizes high-impact third-person melee combat to engage players as they hunt for loot, don legendary armor sets, and defeat vicious enemies. As players face challenging missions in the world of Godfall, enemies and bosses will reward fans with head-turning loot as they are vanquished. Godfall can be played entirely in solo, duo, or three-player coop, providing fun for all.’

Godfall is currently slated for release at the end of 2020 and is expected to launch alongside the PS5 as well as on PC.
