The Outer Worlds Release Date, Rumors and News

If you combined Fallout, Mass Effect, and the TV show Firefly – what you’d get would look a lot like The Outer Worlds, the latest game release from Obsidian Entertainment. An outer-space RPG game where you can kill everyone or no-one, and explore planets with your very own spaceship.

The Outer Worlds Release Date

This is another game that will be getting an Epic Games store exclusive release when it comes to PC gaming. The Outer Worlds will release on October 25th, 2019 through the store, but won’t be available on other PC stores until a year after. So, if you want to get your hands on it, you’re going to have to abandon Steam for a hot minute to get access to it. Or, take the plunge and become a console gamer on the side, as it’s also releasing on PS4 and Xbox One.

The Outer Worlds Gameplay

After traveling in cryosleep on a transport ship heading to humanity’s farthest outpost in space, your ship somehow managed to veer off course and you were left floating for 70 years. That should have killed you, but somehow you survived. You’re brought back to consciousness by a scientist and he wants your help to save the others.

Right from the start, you’re given an important choice to make: will you help the scientist who saved your life, or will you report him to the colonies for a cash reward. The decisions you make at the start of the game will impact how the world around you changes, and how the story unfolds before you.

While it isn’t a huge, open-world game, The Outer Worlds does leave a lot of room for you to play in your own way. There are multiple endings, and it’s down to you to influence where you end up.

Obsidian has confirmed that The Outer Worlds will take around 30-40 hours to complete and that they’ve focused more on replayability and giving players different choices in each game. And, while you can kill any NPC you want to with no real effect on quest options, you can also avoid violence throughout possibly the whole game.

The Outer Worlds Characters

While there are multiple character customization options available to you, the game is played in first-person, so you don’t get much chance to see your creations. One of the biggest areas you can customize though is your stats.

There are six main stat areas that will be laid out in an acronym just like in Fallout (S.P.E.C.I.A.L.) although we don’t have all the details yet. We do know that three of the skills will take the form of Endurance, Willpower, and Temperament. You’ll be able to put up to 100 points in each of these skills, so you can tailor-make the character to your own preferences.

For every 20 points you build up in a skill, you also get to choose a Perk. These perks can help your character to further expand their skills. There are also optional Flaws you can integrate to make your character more realistic. For every Flaw you choose to incorporate, you also get to add a new Perk to help balance it out.

Final Word

All in all, this looks like an interesting and exciting game to come from Obsidian. The mixture of irreverence, first-person combat, and customization options makes it a winner for me. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments below!
