Looking for an ultra-compact gaming keyboard to complete your system? Razer has just launched a brand new mini keyboard – the Huntsman Mini.
This is Razer’s very first 60% keyboard and joins the current Huntsman family of gaming keyboards. The Huntsman range also has a full-sized option and the 80% tenkeyless Huntsman TE model.
For such a small keyboard, the keys all look to be a reasonable size which means you shouldn’t have too much trouble when typing away.
This type of keyboard is perfect for those who are short on space and can comfortably use the bare minimum number of keys. You’ll see no number pad, arrow keys or function keys here. For that reason, having a 60% keyboard really is an either love it or hate it venture. Some people love having a compact keyboard they can tuck away easily. Others find not having dedicated function or media keys maddening.
Don’t worry too much though. You’ll still be able to find all those missing function keys tucked away as alternate function keys. To make things like gaming easier, you can store any custom keybinding profiles through the hybrid onboard storage for easy access.
Design and Key Switch Options
For those looking for a keyboard to match their gaming system, Razer is offering a couple of different colors. You can get this keyboard in a simple black or a mercury white.
All versions of this keyboard come with Razer’s signature RGB lighting, with backlit keys that are easy to customize with Razer’s Synapse software. You’ll be able to use up to 16.8 million color combinations and save any lighting presets to the onboard storage.
There are also two kinds of optical switches: linear or clicky. The clicky version has already launched, priced at $119.99. However, if you’re looking for a quieter keyboard, the linear one will be coming later this summer – priced at $129.99.
Razer claims to have made big improvements from their first-generation linear switches when it comes to noise reduction. So, if you want the tactile response you’d find with a mechanical keyboard, but without all the racket that comes with it, this could be a great choice for you.
Razer has designed this keyboard to be pretty robust. It boasts a 100 million keystroke lifespan and the keyboard uses double-shot PBT keycaps. This protects the letters and numbers from rubbing away or developing that annoying sheen over time.
