Can I Run ARK: Survival Evolved?

When you decide to start playing ARK: Survival Evolved, the first thing you need to know is can I run it? Figuring out the PC specs is vital to ensuring you don’t waste your time trying fiddling around with settings after you’ve bought it. We have a handy guide on how to check computer specifications if you want to take a look.

The game setup involves players being stranded on an island populated by dinosaurs, prehistoric animals and other human players – who may or may not be hostile. 

You experience the game either from a first-person or third-person perspective. It’s an open world that you can explore on foot or even on the back of a prehistoric animal if you can manage to tame one…

You’ll start from scratch in this title with the main aim being to survive the hostile environment. In order to survive, you will first need to establish a base, start a fire and ensure you have weapons to protect yourself. You can use improvised weapons or firearms to defend yourself from all the island’s creatures and other hostile human players. 

There are also other activities you can do such as taming and feeding dinosaurs, but you will first need to acquire the resources to do this. 

Play as either a single-player or through the multiplayer option. Multiplayer allows you to join other players in a server to form tribes. If you manage to tame a dinosaur, then you can share them with other members of your tribe.

Optimal Hardware Suggestions

ARK: Survival Evolved requires a high FPS rate which you should be able to achieve with the recommended requirements. You might start to run into some issues in the densely populated areas though, especially if you are running the game with barely the minimum requirements, turning down some of the graphical settings might help here. 

While a constant 60 FPS isn’t completely necessary for this title and genre, it’s always good to have. If you have a system that only just matches the recommended requirements, you could be looking at around 30-50 FPS on higher settings or above. While you could achieve more by sacrificing some of the graphical quality, this might not be necessary. 

If you would like to move the settings into the ultra range, we’d recommend a slight upgrade to your specifications. Looking towards a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 or above would improve your frame rates drastically. 

What Gaming PC Do We Recommend?

Based on the recommended requirements, we would recommend a PC build that can run a consistent rate of at least 60 FPS at 1080p. This will give you the greatest value out of the titles graphics whilst still having a steady frame rate. Once you reach the late game you will likely have more objects on the screen at one time, our below recommendation takes this into account.

• GPU : AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB

If you’re looking to upgrade your PC to play this title at least, you should be looking at PCs builds in the mid-range $700 category. While upgrading your PC to a higher grade than this won’t hurt, it also isn’t vital unless you are looking to play other titles.
