Even though 4K monitors are now becoming increasingly popular (and affordable) amongst both the gaming and video editing communities, there’s still a huge market for the best 1440p monitors on the market. The 1440p resolution, otherwise known as Quad-HD, offers a fantastic middle ground between 1080p and 4K without being overly demanding on your PC. And while offering better picture quality and clarity over a 1080p display, a 1440p display still allows less powerful PCs to achieve a decent gaming experience.

In the following article, we’ll be taking a look at the best 1440p monitors the market currently has to offer. We’ll be testing each display in a number of different scenarios to see how they stack up in; gamingvideo editing, aesthetics, build quality, and everything else that comes hand-in-hand with a quality 1440p monitor.

So, without further ado, let’s take an initial look at the contenders.

Alienware AW2721D Gaming Monitor

Pros
Cons

Like all our gaming monitor pages, picking the best in class is a pretty difficult task these days. That’s because there are literally so many good options to choose from. However, we’re confident in saying the Alienware AW2721D is one of the best for both price and performance.

The AW2721D comes with Alienware’s signature branding, comprised of a pale grey theme accentuated by LED lighting zones found on the back and stand. Alienware also opted for a new ‘area 51’ styling on the rear – something I personally love about this monitor’s design.

Looks aside, the AW2721D comes to the table boasting pretty much every high-end spec you could want – especially if you’re into gaming. The blistering 144Hz refresh rate pairs nicely with the 1440p screen resolution to provide silky-smooth gameplay. Furthermore, the 1ms response time ensures that no tearing or smearing occurs during the more intense battle scenarios.

As you can see from the specs above, the AW2721D comes equipped with IPS panel technology, making for extremely good viewing angles and color recreation. It offers 131% of the sRGB color spectrum and G-Sync technology as well. Put that all together, and it’s easy to see why this is one of the best 1440p gaming monitors available.

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ

Pros
Cons

Next up, we have the hugely popular Asus TUF VG27AQ. This out-n-out gaming monitor offers very similar specs to the ASUS above and is a highly sought after display.

From a design point of view, the TUF VG27AQ is rather plain but this is something many will prefer. The 27-inch display has thin bezels and a dark gray color theme, with the stand following suit. The stand is fully functional and offers height, tilt, and swivel adjustment. That means finding the perfect viewing angle is going to be more than achievable.

Moving onto gaming, the Asus TUF 1440p monitor comes with a plethora of high-performance specs that include a 144Hz refresh rate that can be overclocked to 165Hz, a 1ms response time, G-Sync support, HDR, and excellent colors. Now, even though this monitor isn’t going to compete with the top-tier displays when regarding picture quality, it certainly will in responsiveness. Gaming will feel extremely smooth, and decent colors provide an immersive feeling too.

Overall, if you’re looking for a great gaming monitor but can’t splash out on something as lucrative as the PG279Q, this should be your next port of call.

Best Curved 1440p Monitor

Samsung C27HG70 Curved Monitor

Pros
Cons

Next up is the ever-popular Samsung C27GH70 gaming monitor. It gets our best curved 1440p monitor spot and for good reason. It offers excellent performance for all-round usage thanks to the specs it comes equipped with while looking utterly stunning in both picture quality and aesthetics.

The curved display, which is rated at 1800R, gives off a luxurious vibe thanks to a well thought out stand design and color theme. The metallic finish certainly adds to the high-end feel, while contrasting nicely with the rest of the display.

Looks aside, you might be surprised to hear that this is one of the best gaming monitors on this list. While it does offer a 1800R curve – something that adds plenty of immersion – the main selling point of this monitor has to be its stunning color recreation and gaming performance.

It comes to the table boasting quantum dot technology and up to 1 billion colors as well. Pair that with the HDR support this monitor offers, and you have a stunning visual experience. From a gaming viewpoint, the C27HG70 also boasts a 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and FreeSync support as well. If your PC is pushing over 144Hz, you’ll experience one of the smoothest gaming experiences possible.

Overall, one of our favorite monitors here at WePC and one we would recommend fully.

Best 1440p Ultrawide Monitor

Alienware AW3420DW Curved Gaming Monitor

Alienware AW3420DW Curved Gaming Monitor

Pros
Cons

Dell’s Alienware AW3420DW curved gaming monitor is up next and brings a band of high-end specs to boot. Before we get into that, though, the design.

The first thing you’ll notice is how big this thing is; it’s huge – and not just in screen size. Overall, it must be one of the biggest monitors I’ve seen. It has a 1900R curved display and is 34″ in size so you can imagine how locked in you feel while using this thing. The stand is angular and works well with the delicate curvature of this display.

Looking at performance, the AW3420DW is a fantastic all-round monitor. Whether you’re looking to play AAA game titles or partake in more creative workflows, you’ll be happy to know this monitor pretty much covers every base. It offers a 120hz refresh rate, a 2ms response time (very good for an ultrawide), and G-sync support as well. Pair that with the impressive IPS panel that comes with this monitor, and you have an extremely good overall viewing experience.

This monitor has also adopted IPS nano color technology as well – which means its color gamut far exceeds that of sRGB and will into DCI-P3. Colors look extremely realistic, and contrast is pretty good for the most part. Like all IPS panels, this one comes with excellent viewing angles too.

Ultimately, if you have the cash and are looking for a striking yet powerful gaming monitor, this could be exactly what you’re looking for.

Best Budget 1440p Monitor

AOC CQ27G1 27″ Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor

AOC CQ27G1 27″ Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor

Pros
Cons

Finally, we have our budget 1440p monitor recommendation. It comes in the shape of AOC’s CQ27G1 and is by far the cheapest on this list. Don’t let that fool you though, this monitor still provides an extremely good viewing experience, to say the least.

The design of the AOC is quite similar to the Predator series from Acer – making use of similar color themes and stand styling. So I suppose that’s a good point. The CQ, as we’ll call it, offers a three frameless design that certainly adds to the immersion when gaming – not to mention the overall aesthetic of this display.

You’re probably thinking at this point the specs are where this monitor lets itself down, but you’d be wrong to think that. The CQ comes equipped with a 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time (MPRT), and FreeSync technology to boot. That’s pretty decent when you consider the price tag, which is well under the $300 mark.

Gaming is smooth and responsive. However, the colors leave a little to be desired if truth be told. Having said that, I’m happy to let that slide thanks to the extremely good value for money this monitor showcases. Build quality is a little bit of a letdown, but that’s to be expected from a monitor of this price.

Overall, this is a great monitor for the price and one that will see budding gamers well into the future.

Final Word

Well, there you have it guys, our complete round-up of the best 1440p monitors currently available in today’s market. It was pretty tricky choosing a top five, mainly because there are so many to choose from. Having said that, we feel confident the above selections are the best in class.
