Philips 498P9Z monitor review
Despite some flaws in gaming performance, this monster 49-inch panel still ticks a lot of the right boxes
The 498P9Z is the latest 49-inch panel from Philips. It comes to shelves boasting an array of high-performance specs that include a speedy 165Hz native refresh rate, 5120 x 1440p screen resolution, and adaptive sync technology too. Despite having a lower than average (for gaming monitors) response time, the 498P9Z still performs to a good standard in single-player titles. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said when playing competitive alternatives, with smearing and ghosting fairly common.
That said, the build quality of this panel is incredibly good – meaning it should stand the test of time if you do want to get a piece of the 49-inch pie without breaking the bank. Overall, a well-priced 49-inch monitor that delivers good levels of immersion and excellent versatility when performing multi-tasking workflows.
