Crafting the weapon of your dreams in Destiny 2 involves a little bit of work on your behalf. The new crafting system (and what good game doesn’t have one these days) allows you to put together your own artillery with the help of Weapons Patterns. Let’s have a look to see how we go about just that

There are a couple of ways to go about unlocking weapon patterns

  • Patterns are a reward for completing certain quests
  • Completing the attunement of a weapon with Deepsight Resonance. Doing so will give you access to the weapon’s pattern to use in the future for crafting purposes. Extracting this Resonance is what will give you crafting materials that you can use to mod the weapon in your chosen way.

You will have at least one of three extraction options – Ruinous, Energetic Element, or Mutable. Once you have these you can craft certain perks with your weapon pattern.

If you want to learn in-depth about how Weapon Patterns work you need to complete the quest The Relic, which comes at you right after the introduction of The Witch Queen. Within this quest you will taught the noble art of weapon crafting and all about Patterns.

What weapon pattern do you start with in Destiny 2?

To start off with you will only have access to the Legendary Glaive pattern which will at least give you the opportunity to learn how things work.

Why use weapon patterns to craft a weapon in Destiny 2?

Crafting your own weapons in Destiny 2 gives you the option to get what you want, or indeed need, without having to really on drops. You can tweak just about anything, so take your time and decide what you really want to do.
