When you are starting out in Elden Ring with any class, you will be offered a Keepsake, which if you choose wisely, could help you get off to the kind of flying start (ie, not dead) that you only dreamed about.
But what are they and how much of a difference does your choice make? Bearing in mind you only get one opportunity, right at the start of the game to pick this, it is an important choice you should not take lightly.
Elden Ring Keepsakes
In Dark Souls we had a starting gift to help us on our way but Elden Ring sees these rebranded as Keepsakes. Each keepsake will offer something a little different to you as you start out, so let’s have a look at the choices before we delve into what’s worth keeping and what’s worth, er asking.
No keepsake | Don’t start with nothing, you may as well pick one |
Crimson Amber Medallion | Increases Max HP |
Lands Between Rune | Consumed to acquire Runes. |
Golden Seed | Upgrade Flask |
Fanged Imp Ashes | Summons imp spirits |
Cracked Pot | Crafting item – used to craft throwing pots |
Stonesword Key | Breaks one imp statue seal |
Bewitching Branch | Can charm five enemies onto your side |
Boiled Prawn | Boosts physical damage negation, but I hate prawns so would not go near it personally |
Shabriri’s Woe | Attracts enemy aggression |
Best Elden Ring Keepsake
Much like choosing your ideal class, your choice of Keepsake in Elden RIng may well come down to how you want to play the game – unless you want the prawn then shame on you, pink cockroaches of the sea man, leave them well alone.
While it may be tempting to go for the Crimson Amber Medallion for the increase to your maximum health points, it’s almost to easy and hopefully, you will be able to outgrow it quickly. No, we would look closer at the Golden Seed which allows you to charge up your flash for a bit more healing.
The Stonesword Key can also come in handy as can the Bewitching Branch which may just turn the tide when it comes to charming enemies to your cause if you find yourself outnumbered.
