The Wound in the Sand is a side quest in Horizon Forbidden West that involves Cahplain Jetakka. The Desert Clan is struggling without water and despite being the capital of the Scalding Spear, the villagers are unable to find a solution to their woes. Aloy can come to the rescue for the clan and help it find a new water source. Completing the quest rewards you with 4,750 XP and two skill points. The recommended level for the quest is 19 and you automatically get access to the quest by completing Thirst for the Hunt.

How to Complete The Wound in the Sand in Horizon Forbidden West

To start the quest, you need to meet Jetakka in Scalding Spear. After following Jetakka around, you will meet Yarra who will help you go to the next objective within the Scalding Spear area. You have to make your way through the water tank in the ground directly ahead and follow the pipes until you have to climb a wall.

After climbing the wall, you have to keep following the pipes and head to a new area where you will meet some machines that want to kill you. Take down the machines and examine the corpse that is located near the giant log. Follow the clues and find the source of water. Aloy will realize that the pump is damaged and needs to be repaired. Players can use their Focus to figure out which parts they need to repair.

Once you are done with the repairs you can return to the Wound in the Sand area and talk to the guard. After talking to the guard, head to Yarra’s quarters and the quest will complete after some dialogue. The end of the quest will trigger the Gate of the Vanquished storyline which is a follow-up to the mission you just completed.
