Like many things in life, changes to your favorite apps and services can be inevitable – and a real pain, especially if they don’t align with your personal preferences. Discord, one of the world’s biggest VOIP services recently went through some major updates of their own. Updates that weren’t all met with universal praise if truth be told.

Discord has a new reaction menu that pops up next to messages in the chat window… All the messages.

Annoyingly, whenever your cursor hovers over a message in the chat, the new reaction feature will automatically pop-up. This has sparked a lot of anger in Discord communities and forum sites – with threads cropping up everywhere trying to find out how to disable the feature.

Fear not folks, WePC are here to lend a helping hand. We’re going to walk you through exactly how to disable this feature once and for all before you delete your discord account in disgust.

So, without further ado, let’s dive straight into it.

How to Fix/Disable Discords New Reaction Menu

You’ll be happy to hear that the process of removing the reaction menu is actually pretty straight forward and only requires a few simple clicks.

#Step 1: Go to “User Settings”

Simply go to the User settings cog on the right of your username and click it

#Step 2: Go to “Text & Images”

Locate the “Text & Images” Tab and select it

#Step 3: Unselect “Show emoji reactions on messages”

Underneath the Emoji tab, find the “show emoji reactions on messages” setting, and unselect it

Once unselected, go back to the main hub. This should disable the new reaction feature altogether. What I mean by that is, you will no longer be able to leave reactions to messages. But at least it stops that pesky menu popping up, right?

Discord’s New UI

So, it’s safe to say the new update Discord just released has not gone down all too great with their extensive fan base. There are literally hundreds of forums posts displaying outrage towards it! But what exactly has changed?

Let’s take a closer look.

One of the biggest differences is, as discussed above, is the new reaction feature that pops up every time you hover over a message. See below:

This is, by far, the biggest reason for the recent outburst. However, we’ve already fixed that. So let’s move on to the next big problem with the update…

How the message you are hovering over now darkens. The horror. A lot of folks aren’t too pleased with this feature either.

The final problem people have with the update (from what I can tell anyway), is the “new” marker for unread messages. Whenever you receive a new message, a marker displays where you left off from your previous session. The best way to show this is by showing you. So here is it. Brace yourself.
