Dying Light 2 Release Date, News, And Rumors

The Dying Light 2 release date has been confirmed! We’ve been waiting for a Dying Light 2 release date for over a year now and it’s finally been revealed.

A follow-up to Techland’s wildly popular Dying Light game, which was released in 2015, it promises even more zombie-based gameplay. Set in a world where zombies have begun to take over, and humanity is standing weakly on its last legs, you get to live out your Walking Dead fantasies in beautiful color.

As we get more news and updates on the Dying Light 2 release date, features, storyline, and gameplay, we’ll also update this page. So, keep checking back for the latest news.

Dying Light 2 Release Date

The new Dying Light 2 release date has been confirmed as December 7, 2021.

After first being announced at E3 in 2018, it wasn’t until E3 2019 that we finally got a release date – even if it was an incorrect one. “Spring 2020” seems a long time in the past now, but at least we should finally be able to get our hands on the game very soon!

To make sure you will be able to play Dying Light 2 when it does release, check out our Dying Light 2 System Requirements page.

What’s The Dying Light 2 Story?

Dying Light 2 takes place 15 years after the original installment and follows the journey of new protagonist Aiden Caldwell, voiced by the charismatic Troy Baker (Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite). Caldwell is an infected survivor who gains new allies through his dexterity and combat abilities. The game’s developers have focused much more on the storyline and roleplay elements in Dying Light 2, possibly after feedback from the fans who found the first game to drag along with a dull character arc.

See our page on the latest Dying Light 2: Stay Human trailer for more information.

Dying Light 2 Gameplay

The choices you make in this game will also come into play much more than before. You will have the choice of aligning yourself with different warring factions, and every decision you make will have a noticeable impact on the story. Based in what has simply been called “The City,” the map is around four times larger than the first game, further expanding the story possibilities.

With each choice bringing about entirely unique consequences, it gives this game a huge amount of replay potential. From what we can tell, you could play this game time and time again, and as long you change your decisions, the outcome will always be different.

The below gameplay trailer from 2019 is the most extensive look at the gameplay of Dying Light 2 released so far.

Besides this, the gameplay demo showcased at E3 2019 showed us just how much impact one decision can have on the rest of the game. As a huge fan of the old Fable games, this has definitely made me sit up and take notice.

You’ll also notice the quality of the graphics is pretty impressive. The dynamic backgrounds and ability to interact with so much of the world around you makes this an exciting new release.

Dying Light 2 New Features

One of the major differences between the first game and Dying Light 2 is the zombies that are featured throughout the game. The developers have altered the ways in which these zombies act. There are now three levels of infected zombies that you’ll have to face. The first, “Virals,” are quicker, more aggressive, and able to move around in daylight – although they will avoid it when they can. After this, you have “Biters,” these are more of your typical zombies, sluggish and trying to bite everyone in sight. Finally, when things are really going south, you have “Degenerates” and “Volatiles.” The first are decaying bags of flesh that are not really much of a threat. The second are hell on legs, and you’re going to have to run from them as fast as your able – there’s no fighting “Volatiles,” only death.

Also, with an extended map, we’ll see more chances to explore and interact with the world as a whole than we did in the previous game. Screenshots and trailers that have been released show a dystopian metropolis which can either turn to ruin and rampage or begin to thrive as a new community – all dependant on the choices you make.

There have also been updates to the combat in Dying Light 2. By the looks of the gameplay videos that have already surfaced, you can now interact with objects in the environment to compliment your attacks. In one such video, we see the player throw a nearby bucket at an assailant before plunging him off a ledge. Enemies will also make it more obvious when they are about to attack or are left vulnerable with new body positions.

Finally, the use of UV and sunlight has become an integral way of fighting back the zombified hordes. You can use this during combat, and it will affect the zombies in different ways, depending on which stage of infection they are at.
