Nvidia Calling on PC Gamers to Use Their Rig to Fight Coronavirus

Experts have come up with a novel way to help other PC users out during the COVID-19 outbreak. Nvidia is asking its customers and other PC gamers to use their powerful gaming PCs to donate unused GPU clock cycles to support efforts to research diseases.

How Does It Work?

Nvidia says that PC gamers can use the Folding@home software which allows anyone with a computer to donate spare clock cycles via a globally linked network of PCs. This will make what is essentially an international supercomputer and will ensure that everyone can improve their knowledge of coronavirus and other diseases.

As gaming PCs typically have more powerful graphics cards than other PCs, they are in the best position to help others out.

If you choose to donate clock cycles, you can do so when your PC is not being used (but is turned on). You can also pause the software for when you want to play any games so there’s little impact on performance for your own gaming sessions.

What Is Folding@Home?

Folding@Home is a distributed computing project which runs disease research. They do this by using the idle resources of personal computers all around the world which users can choose to donate to. If you want more information about the Folding@home project and how you can donate, you can visit their website for more details.

If you’re looking for a way to help fight Coronavirus but don’t have anything to donate or are currently self-isolating, this is a great way you can help out from the comfort of your own home.

Will you be donating your unused clock cycles to help out in the fight against Coronavirus? What do you think of this project, had you heard of it previously? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
