Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 (S49AG95NC)

Pros
Cons

Choosing the best 49 inch monitor for this guide was relatively easy. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 literally offers it all – whether you want a great editing panel, high-end gaming monitor, or something more tailored towards content consumption, the Neo G9 can do it all.

Aesthetically speaking, the Neo G9 is very similar to its predecessor, the Odyssey G9. In fact, it’s pretty much identical – and that’s not a bad thing. The Odyssey G9 features the same white color theme and futuristic design traits, including the fan-favorite vortex found on the rear.

Looks aside, it’s the performance of this monitor that impresses us the most. Considering this is a 49 inch monitor, you might expect Samsung to go easy on the specs. However, that’s not the case – this thing is by far the best 49 inch monitor in this guide, offering everything from high refresh rates and low response times to stunning HDR performance and comfortable viewing.

At its heart of the Neo G9 lies the latest mini LED backlight technology which allows the panel to deliver much better HDR performance. Speaking of HDR, the Neo G9 features VESA DisplayHDR2000 certification, making it one of the best monitors in the market for color reproduction.

Whether you’re gaming, editing, browsing, or working, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 really does tick all the right boxes. That said, it is the most expensive monitor in this guide, so be sure to consider that before getting your hopes up.

Best 120Hz 49 inch monitor

AOC AG493UCX Curved Gaming Monitor

AOC AG493UCX Curved Gaming Monitor

Pros
Cons

The AOC AG493UCX is the company’s latest 49 inch monitor, offering up a nicely balanced set of specifications for a great all round experience.

Looking at the design, AOC have given the AG493UCX a subtle design that is characterized by its large V-shaped stand. The stand is metal by design and works well with the thin bezels of the AG493UCX to achieve a stylish look.

As far as performance goes, the AG493UCX is a solid performer from both a gaming and content consumption standpoint. At the heart of this monitor sits a very efficient VA panel that delivers crispy image quality and smooth gaming visuals. A 5120 x 1440 screen resolution offers a great viewing experience for those interesting in this mid-tier 49 inch monitor. Alongside this, users can also expect a 1ms MPRT response time, moderate 120Hz refresh rate, and 121% sRGB color coverage. Unlike the Neo G9, the AG493UCX features a 1000R curvature which is much more subtle. While this isn’t as immersive, it is much less aggressive from an aesthetics standpoint.

Unfortunately, the AG493UCX does fall a little short when it comes to high-end features, lacking peak brightness, FALD (full-array local dimming), and true HDR performance.

All being said, it still ticks a lot of the right boxes and won’t cost you nearly as much as other offerings in this guide.

Best budget 49 inch monitor

Philips 498P9Z

Philips 498P9Z

Pros
Cons

Philips probably won’t be the first brand you think of when it comes to 49 inch monitors, however, the brand has released the 498P9Z and it seems to tick a lot of the right boxes.

Aesthetically, the Philips 498P9z looks very premium. At the base of this monitor lies a large square stand is constructed from solid metal. Not only does this give the monitor a premium style, it also adds a tonne of robustness to the design of this panel. A brushed aluminum bezel can be found at the base of this monitor, working nicely with the rest of the monitor’s design for a premium feel.

Specifications might not be as impressive as other 49 inch monitors in this guide, but don’t let that put you off – it still offers a very pleasing visual experience. Again, the Philips 498P9Z features a 1440p VA panel that offers inky blacks, a solid 3000:1 contrast ratio, and acceptable colors right out of the box. Speaking of colors, users can expect full sRGB coverage, alongside 91% DCI-P3 coverage for richer color reproduction. Gamers will be happy with the 165Hz refresh rate this monitor provides, offering smooth gaming performance with only limited perceived blur. Unfortunately, the Philips 498P9z is one of the slower monitors in this guide, average at around 4ms. That said, it’s still below the 5ms mark making it acceptable for fast-moving images.

When you take everything into consideration, including the price, it’s hard to argue with the value this monitor brings to the table.

Samsung Logo

Samsung Odyssey G9 (C49G95T)

Samsung Logo

Samsung Odyssey G9 (C49G95T)

Pros
Cons

We sang the Odyssey G9’s praises when it first hit shelves over 12 months ago, and still to this day, it’s easily one of the best 49 inch monitors in today’s market.

As far as design goes, this is one of the most futuristic monitors in today’s market. Characterized by the super ultrawide 1000R curvature, the G9 pairs sweeping curves with sharp angles for a very futuristic overall design. Of course, the G9 was one of the first monitors to feature the fan favorite vortex RGB zone, finishing the Sci-Fi look off nicely.

Performance-wise, it’s hard to knock the Samsung Odyssey G9 even today. It still features on of the fastest VA panels in the market, featuring crisp 1440p visuals, high-end 240Hz refresh rates, and low 1ms GTG response times. All that combined results in a smooth gaming experience that is hugely impressive – even when compared to some of the market’s best gaming monitors. Furthermore, Samsung has equipped the Odyssey G9 with VESA DisplayHDR1000 certification that enables the panel to deliver excellent detail in extreme dark and bright regions.

All being said, the Samsung G9 is still one of the market’s best monitors. And while it isn’t as expensive as the Neo G9, it’s still well above the $1,000 mark – making it a high-end prospect nonetheless.

Best LG 49 inch monitor

LG 49WL95C

LG 49WL95C

Pros
Cons

Our final pick is the LG 49WL95C, a budget-tailored 49 inch monitor that caters more to the everyday user than the gamers.

Aesthetically speaking, the LG 49WL95C looks absolutely fantastic. Like other monitors in this guide, the 49WL95C features a sweeping curve that is mirrored by the robust stand that sits underneath it. Thin bezels complete the look with only limited design features found on the rear of the panel.

As far as performance goes, this monitor is definitely tailored more towards the general user than the gamer. It only features a 60Hz refresh rate making it the slowest panel in this guide, however, with IPS technology at its centre, you can still get a fantastic viewing experience. Colors pop when watching TV shows and movies on this monitor, with viewing angles being far superior to anything else in this guide. Granted, you can play some single-player console titles on this monitor, however, be aware that you will be restricted to 60Hz @ 1440p.

Overall, if you want the luxury of a 49 inch monitor without breaking the bank, the LG 49WL95C could be exactly what you’re looking for.
