Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most anticipated games in the Call of Duty series’ long history. Modern Warfare 2 is continuing the rebooted Modern Warfare timeline that began with 2019’s Modern Warfare. Franchise fans were enamoured by this new take on Price and Co, and Modern Warfare 2 is set to continue the new Bravo Team’s journey. Fans have been treated to a brand new trailer, detailing campaign gameplay, courtesy of the Summer Games Fest.
Operation: Dark Water
The trailer begins in a way hugely reminiscent of Modern Warfare 1’s opening, assaulting a cargo ship. The mission displays impressive lighting and environmental effects. The sky is grim and rain-streaked as the operatives make their way up to a cargo container, the containers shifting from side to side as they pick off threats left and right. While the original Modern Warfare mission is a memorable opener, the tense, overwhelming atmosphere here is an exciting tease of how the series can perform on modern platforms.
Following the mission, the trailer ends with a flash of full campaign gameplay, including an exciting shot of a familiar ghost-faced figure. Check the whole thing out for yourself below.
Modern Warfare 2 looks set to continue the thread that 2019’s Modern Warfare began. Reuniting new versions of old favourite characters, updating their missions and concerns for a new modern age. The original Modern Warfare trilogy was an overwhelming success and is still considered by many to be the high point of the entire franchise, even if later instalments indulged more in over-the-top global threats that were harder to take seriously than the trilogy’s initially grounded feel. Infinity Ward look to be pulling out all the stops with this new series, time will tell if it manages to step fully out of its predecessor’s shadow.
Modern Warfare 2 will also be returning the franchise to Steam, ensuring that the widest possible audience will be tuning in for this instalment.
Modern Warfare 2 is set to premiere wordlwide on October 28th 2022.
