With AMD’s CES conference happening later today, it appears as if we’ve got some further leaks for their desktop variants of their CPUs, including Zen 4, and AM5 and what they might look like for consumers. Some of the biggest changes that we’ve seen so far to Ryzen since its release will be the brand-new AM5 socket, and with that also comes the additional challenge of redesigning the chiplets and chipsets, which are a little bit different to how we have learned to know and love the AM4 IHS design.

The CPU design for Zen 4 looks to be very different in a few key ways. Firstly, it looks like the CPUs are using pins instead of pads, which means that you will no longer have to worry about bending a single pin on your CPU and it threatens to never work ever again, lest you attempt to try to bend the pins back to where they were before.

AMD AM5 release date

On a leaked slide as seen on Videocardz, we can expect to see the brand-new socket in addition to an expected launch date for the brand new platform, which is looking to be ‘2H 2022’ which means the second half of 2022, our bets would be on a release date around September or October 2022, before the peak shopping season happens. So, you can expect to see AM5 motherboards launching around this timeframe, which is in line with the processors themselves.

AMD Ryzen 7000 / Zen 4 Raphael release date

AMD Ryzen 7000 / Zen 4’s release date is also ‘2H 2022’, meaning that we expect to see it in the second half of 2022, this means that you could potentially see the initial flagship chips launching first, with the ‘midrange’ options coming out at the end of the year, or even around 2023. We don’t have a crystal ball to see what exactly they are going to announce, just that whatever it is, it’s coming in the second half of this year.
