Diablo Immortal might have only just been released, but it’s already being review bombed on MetaCritic. It’s currently the third-worst score in Blizzard’s long development history.

Diablo Immortal? Maybe Not For Long

There are only currently two games that are sitting underneath Diablo Immortal, continuing a negative Metacritic streak for Blizzard that has been going on since 2019. Only Warcraft III Reforged and World of Warcraft Classic: Burning Crusade Classic are currently sitting underneath Diablo Immortal, with a 0.6 and a 0.4 respectively.

Diablo Immortal itself is sitting at a 0.8 on Metacritic as of the time of writing. The game, developed by Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase, was announced in late 2018 and was received with overall negativity, but in the last six months or so has seen a peculiar turn-around of those same people suddenly becoming excited about the game.

The game launched four days ago, on the 2nd of June, and is sitting at a more favorable 4.1/5 on the Google Play store and a 4.7/5 on the Apple App Store. Over the last few days, the game has seen reports that maxing out a Diablo Immortal character could cost a player up to $110,000.

A video by Bellular News has analyzed the game and came to the conclusion that in order to fully upgrade a post-game character you would need the premium currency of the game, Legendary Gems. The analysis worked out that you would need $110,000 worth of these gems, which suddenly becomes even worse when you realize you can’t outright buy these gems and that you have to get them through a loot box known as a Legendary Crest. The game hasn’t launched in the Netherlands or Belgium due to these loot boxes breaking the strict loot box laws in those areas.
