It’s that time again when 3DCenter brings us an update on the GPU pricing situation in Germany and Austria. And the trend of falling prices continues from the previous report. It has been a steady decrease but it is a good trend to find. Helped along by more card releases, increased stock, and plummeting crypto prices. The bade exchange rate between USD and EUR also is felt via this report.
The latest report shows that AMD Radeon cards average only 2% above MSRP. Whilst Nvidia is still higher on average with an increase of 6% over their MSRP. As it also now includes the likes of the 3090 Ti and the RX 6X50 XT refresh from AMD. Overall, adding to the increasing supply of available graphics cards. Whilst also Ethereum is constantly falling, making crypto mining even less profitable, leaving the GPUs for the rest of us without being snatched up.
Why are best cards still expensive?
Although on average the card price has been decreasing, the core offering sits higher than the rest. The mid to high range sits about 17% higher than their MSRP, much higher than the averages. 3DCenter splits the core offering into: RX 6700 XT, 6800, 6800 XT, RTX 3060 Ti, 3070, and 3080 10GB.
Although the core offering is still higher, it is also falling, with a decrease of six percent from the beginning of the month. Should I wait for the next generation of GPUs?
With so much price chaos and the trend of lowering prices if you can, it might be worth waiting for more. The continuing trend of falling Ethereum means more cards available for gamers with falling profitability. As well as the new recent releases have improved stock availability for any kind of performance range.
We also expect the RTX 40 series announcement in July, and AMDs RDNA 3 cards sometime in Q2. So it’s not too long of a wait on the next generation of graphics cards and so it would be worth waiting. As it will offer improved performance upon current cards but will also drop the prices further. So you will have the choice of newer or older cards depending on your needs but with more choice and better pricing.
