It’s the 9th of May, another day which means another Wordle hint. Today’s Wordle answer has been changed in the last couple of hours, due to the coincidental relevance of the first answer. If you haven’t started today’s yet, read on to get some hints to help you on your way and find out what the original answer was and why it was changed.
Why was Wordle 324 changed on May 9, 2022?
This isn’t a spoiler, but if you didn’t complete Wordle last night or very early this morning, you may hear some other users saying that their answer was “fetus”. As we know, Wordle has a huge catalogue of words that it picks from randomly each day. No person selects the word, and no-one knows what the word is without playing, as it’s completely random. That’s why it was such a surprise that today’s word was so relevant to the news.
For those unfamiliar with the situation in the United States at the moment, the Supreme Court is currently considering a case that could overturn a 1973 ruling which made abortion legal in the US. The Roe vs Wade case saw “Jane Roe” make a successful plea to change the rights of women across the country. Now, the American justice system is considering overturning that decision in over half of the US States.
This is a controversial and emotive subject for many across America, and the world, so it’s clear why The New York Times decided to change today’s Wordle answer. In a statement released late on May 8, 2022, the newspaper stated that “Today… some users may see an outdated answer that seems closely connected to a major recent news event… At New York Times Games, we take our role seriously as a place to entertain and escape, and we want Wordle to remain distinct from the news.”

Today’s (new) Wordle answer is… SHINE. Much less triggering than the original answer, hopefully “shine” just makes you feel a bit sunny inside. Though this writer’s mind went straight to moonshine… Don’t think too much into what that says about me.
