Darkness and Disharmony is one of Total War Warhammer 3’s multiplayer campaigns. Its objectives and layout differ from that of the main Realm of Chaos Campaign. And much like Something rotten in Kislev, it focuses heavily on the realm of one of the mortal factions. Cathay is the battleground this time, and the forces of Chaos are gunning for control!

We’ll walk you through how to access the campaign, as well as what exactly Darkness and Disharmony entails.

Darkness and Disharmony: Campaign details

Total War Warhammer 3’s Darkness and Disharmony campaign centres around a Daemonic invasion of Cathay. Cathayan defenders hold back the tides of the Chaos faction, and the Ogre Kingdoms wade into the fray as a destabilising force. All these factions compete to gain control of settlements around the map. And unlike Something rotten in Kislev, Darkness and Disharmony plays host to large-scale multiplayer battles. Up to 8 players can take part in this battle for the future of Cathay!

How to access

Thankfully, it couldn’t be easier to get started with the Darkness and Disharmony campaign. Simply navigate to the Campaigns section of the menu and select multiplayer campaign. Then choose to Host Campaign and select Darkness and Disharmony from the three options available. From there you can select your faction and get ready to wage war for the fate of Cathay.

Mechanical changes in Darkness and Disharmony

Darkness and Disharmony takes place on a smaller and more local scale than Total War Warhammer 3’s main campaign. The starting locations for the Chaos and Ogre factions are moved within Cathay. In many ways, this sandbox skirmish can reproduce Realm of Chaos on a smaller scale, leading to more hectic battles.

With so many potential players, you may worry about Darkness and Disharmony games dragging on, but thankfully this isn’t likely to be an issue. Simultaneous turns reduce any dead time spent waiting for others to complete their actions

Whereas Something rotten in Kislev was a co-operative affair, here players are given free reign to run wild. Compete, team up and backstab to your hearts content. And given their focus in Something Rotten, Kislev is absent as a faction choice from Darkness and Disharmony. As are the Daemons of Chaos. Players can see for yourself how these absences affect the balance between factions. Things may end up going very differently than they would in Realm of Chaos!
