The PS5 is one of the most successful consoles of all time, wiping the floor with the Xbox Series X despite constant stock shortages. The demand for the PS5 doesn’t appear to be slowing down and a potential PS5 Pro release date could see that interest spike. For gaming in 4K, there are no options better than the PS5 but if the rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro are true, the Pro variant would be on everyone’s wishlist.

Everything PS5 Pro-related is just rumored at this point but looking at previous generations, the upgrade and speculated launch date feels logical. Whether the rumors are true or not, this is an exciting concept, with the PS5 possibly coming with greater 4K upscaling ability. Before a mid-gen upgrade Pro variant, we usually see a ‘Slim’ model. The PS4 Pro was a successful mid-gen upgrade, however, the demand was nothing like it is has been for the PS5.

Possible PS5 Pro release date – will this console ever be launched?

There is already a debate about whether or not we will see a mid-generation update this time around. We just have to look back at Sony and Microsoft’s previous generations to see that this is a possibility. Previous examples also show us when the most logical release date could be too. That being said, with the PS4, for example, 4K gaming became accessible, therefore an upgrade made a lot of sense to bridge the gap with the current-gen of consoles. For a PS5 Pro to release, we would need to see further advancements, possibly higher refresh rate gaming, or 8K capabilities to make an upgrade seem worth it.

If this generation follows previous years, the Potential PS5 Pro release date could be late 2023 or early 2024, as YouTuber RedGamingTech suggests. The three-year gap between the PS5 and the potential Pro launch follows what we saw from the previous generation.

How much would the PS5 Pro be?

The price of the PS5 Pro is another unknown but looking back we saw the PS4 Pro launch at $399. With the rumored upgrades we can only speculate the price of the Pro but you can safely assume it will cost more than the original disc version. This could potentially put the PS5 Pro at around $600-$700.

PS5 Pro specification predictions – what upgrades are rumored?

We expect most areas of the PS5 Pro to surpass the original, otherwise, the potential price simply wouldn’t be worth it. CNET speculated that the processor could see a boost, possibly utilizing an AMD Zen 4 and RDNA 3 CPU/GPU partnership. This extra power could bring about the performance improvements we heard YouTuber RedGamingTech speculate, with up to two and a half times boost in ray tracing titles. Ideally, this would also mean we could see upscaled 4K at 120 FPS, native 4K at 60 FPS with solid ray-tracing effects, and a bolster in storage space.

PS5 Pro launch – would the upgrade actually be worth it?

If the rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro turn out true and the performance boost is more than double in ray-tracing, then yes. If the console is the top-end of let’s say, $700, it will offer unrivaled performance for the price. No gaming PC or alternative could match that value for money.

Whether or not it is worth you trading in your current PS5 for the upgrade largely depends on what you want. If you have always gone for the most powerful model and want to wield those updated ray-tracing graphics on your 4K TV, picking up the Pro would make a lot of sense.

The original PS5 recently received a significant update, with the addition of VRR. Variable refresh rates will come in handy if there ever is a PS5 Pro, giving gamers flawless performance no matter the settings.

PS4 Pro release date

The PS4 Pro launched on November 10th, 2016, which was a few days over exactly three years from the original. This amount of time gives the developers a chance to boost performance and create something that would be worth an upgrade. By the time of the speculated PS5 Pro release date will stock shortages and global issues be over? We don’t know but things are heating up and will Microsoft respond with their own mid-gen release?

Until an official announcement, we won’t know if a PS5 Pro is actually coming to shelves. Our eyes and ears are peeled.

The PS4 Pro launched offering gamers 4K gaming, so will the PS5 Pro possibly offer 8K? This is the question on everyone’s lips but how useful a PS5 capable of 8K gaming would be is another entirely. Would there be any games to support this? Would players bother if they couldn’t afford an 8K TV? Regardless, it’s incredible to see how far the console has come.

Will Sony keep the PS5 design for the Pro version? Could the Pro be a more powerful PS5 Slim model? Only time will tell.
